Ubuntu, now with a side order of PORN!
So I upgraded my desktop and logged in today, to be greated by new artwork from the guys at Ubuntu.

Login ScreenDesktop
Ubuntu :: Now with 92% more pr0n!

See it's all in sepia and there is lots of hugging, so it's not really porn, it's art, however it's not exactly what I was expecting.

While I am in full support of having an incredibly progressive desktop and as long as the women in the photo are happy to have themselves oggled over by numerous perverted geeks, I really hope there will be a worksafe version of the CD (although I'm led the believe new installers won't have this, and you only get it if you were running the preview release).

GDM and splash are final

The GDM and GNOME splash screens will be in the final release; however, the background will only show up if you have manually selected the default background at some point. So, even a lot of preview release users will never see that background (me being one of them). Hope that clears things up a little. Cheers.

no work friendly cd will be created.
Ubuntu's strengths and edge comes from its close relationship with humanity.
Users are mature enough to not be offended by something that is obviosly non-sexually motivated art.
That said, there is an alternative empty studio wallpaper for the cold-mechanical unloving audience of Ubuntu.

I quite like them. The GDM theme has a certain amount of class, even if the girl in orange has the perkiest breasts ever. The splash screen is a little bizarre, I'm not sure how I feel about that. The desktop is artistic, but possibly not something you might want on your desktop. As I discovered, it will not in fact be the default so that's probably ok.

To me, all the splash screens pale in comparison to the one out of Redhat 7.something. It was a black and white photo of people getting off a train, the only colour was a red fedora which was the hat on the head of the shadowman. Very classy.

"Obvious" to who? I'm sure you'll find plenty of cultures where photographs of near-naked people are considered offensive no matter the "intention". Middle-east cultures spring to mind.

Why is there only one bloke and two gals? Looks a little unusual. Is polygamy something else that Ubuntu promotes besides "humanity to others"? Also, there should be an asian person (girl preferably ^_^, remove that girl in orange) on the photo as well.

I have it on good faith that monogamy is a western thing. Along with 100 other derogatory comments towards the west.

I suspect it's that way because it's not practical to have 1.5 blokes and 1.5 gals.

I know this is an old post, but I might as well say it:

They're all native to Africa, albeit different parts. Yes, there are some fairer skinned groups in Africa, especially along the Mediterranean. This was more in keeping with the cradle of humanity idea, because, after all, H. sapiens is an African species that just happened to migrate everywhere else.

Apparently the images are supposed to symbolise "diversity". That's diverse as in "they're all thin, attractive models", presumably...

No, they are meant to represent humanity.. Diversity would be a bonus but its not the main vision.

Never assume , You'll make an 'ass' of 'u' and 'me'

Isn't Ubuntu young and attractive too ?

Grab the ubuntu-artwork package, etc. from archive.ubuntu.org then run Alien on them to make them into RPMs.

Jeeze, I wouldn't even consider it to be even mildly titilating. (pun intended :)

You have to realise I'm being very tounge in cheek about the whole porn thing. With the exception of the splash screen, I don't consider the rest to be pornographic.

While I realise a number of countries would find these images completely unacceptable, I'm sure the Ubuntu people are aware of this, and locales that are used in those countries probably prevent the artwork from being shown.

There is nothing wrong with it really, especially in western europe where they advertise icecream with topless women.

not really that much of an issue to worry about, honestly. It's too artsy to really care that much about, it can fall under tasteful nudism *shrug*
