everyone knows a dog needs a home...

The UCC had a dinner to celebrate its 31st birthday tonight. It was quite well attended (26 people I think) although several people piked (and they suck, you know who you are).

Some photos were taken at the event. Unfortunately no one who is actually good with a camera took any. The total bill ran to an impressive $900. You can see the money being counted (each of those piles is $100).

Today seems to have been the day to receive parcels from the US. James and my order from Amazon arrived, having come via Germany. It was in a weaved plastic bag, which seems to have been added when the box got damaged and looked like splitting. This means that I now have the Traveller T20 rulebook.

The other thing that arrived were the parts for manbo. Delivered to UWA by Fedex. We took some photos of us unpacking the box to find smaller boxes. In the end we received 6 CPU boards (with 2 CPUs per board) as well as two extra CPUs separately wrapped, a new clock board and a new I/O board. You can see them stacked up. At some point soon, we will shut the machine down; pull the old boards out; move our 12G of RAM into the new boards; install the other CPUs in the one suitable CPU board we already had; and shove it all back together. Then I understand we're installing OpenSolaris. I should mention that most of this upgrade was paid for with a grant from Linux Australia, the plan is to tinderbox GNOME builds and then start using Solaris 10 diagnostic tools on GNOME.
