Completed my second day at my new job. Ignoring the draconian Internet access policy instigated by the parent company, it's been quite enjoyable. Sure I don't have access to CVS or ssh, but I am getting work done. So far, the port hasn't been so hard. The API for things like libgnomeui and Bonobo haven't changed a lot and the Glade files for the old generated interfaces were still around and were able to be easily ported to libglade thanks to a handy Python script (I think I have James H. to thank). I've been learning lots of bits and pieces about autotools, although I haven't yet managed to get the linker playing nicely with the Fortran yet.
The other thing that is nice is the stupidly large amount of desktop space that I have. Two 21" DVI monitors say that I have more screen space then I know what to do with. To be honest, I was actually impressed with how well GNOME behaves on dual head. Having a window list on each screen's panel only shows the windows on that screen. If you remove one of those window lists, the other list displays the windows on both screens. Some stuff doesn't work so well unfortunately. Nautilus like to put windows in the middle between the two screens and Eye of GNOME does something a little strange with positioning when viewing a particularly large image.
The UCC is getting a fair few Samsung manufactured Alphas. This will be cool.
The Optus dancing penguins make me so happy.
