TPK
01:27 am
This is a post about Dungeons and Dragons. If you're not interested, don't read it.

Was introduced to the acronym TPK tonight, short for Total Party Kill. That is actually a misnomer, as the entire party wasn't killed. For once I survived, although this was probably related to the fact that I couldn't actually get into combat.

In true classic style, one character was exploring a hard to reach place sans armor after another character had been thrown almost to his death. She ended up in combat 2 rounds of climbing and a round of flat out running away. Climbing was not easy, so it left the monster a chance to devour the party members one by one. My poncey wizard was unable to make the climb and didn't have any magic remaining anyway, so kinda ended up twiddling his thumbs while the party died.

Unfortunately this leaves me with no party, no idea how they died, what they died at the hand of. I suppose all that is left now is to go back to town where I can buy climbing equipment and collect three freshly rolled up second level travelling companions. Then lead them to their deaths.

Dear Mr Howard,

There is a subtle difference between "Australians may have to give up a few civil rights" and due cause? what f*#king due cause?.

When will this country again find a strong leader? Preferably one who is not psychotic. Please apply with the Australian Electoral Commission.

Clinging to Sanity
06:02 pm
Today at work I got my first glimpse of the bringing together of 4 pieces of code I have been working on. This is a shot from the development version of one of our analysis apps. I've been rebuilding it from the ground up, keeping what is good and rewriting what is bad. Plotting is now done in Cairo (rather than with GtkPlot) which means that eventually it is going to scale a heap better, as well as being printable (a requested feature).

Clinger

This image (full size) shows pretty much as much of Clinger as has been implemented. Lots of behind the scenes work needed cleaning up (and has been libraryfied) and the custom ClingerCairoPlot widget had more bugs then I had originally realised when I merged it with the UI. You can see the blue triangles marking shots (ie. dynamite) and the green diamonds marking sensors (geophones). You can see a kink in the line, probably the sensors going around a tree.

What is missing from this are all of the midpoints, those midpoints are used to find a continuous line that we can flatten for analysis with the MGiva tool.

New plan for working is this: set 8 hours of music in Muine. It says 8 hours remaining. Start working, when you're feeling listless look at Muine, 5 hours remaining, woo! Stop working when the music runs out. Just like an hourglass, only entertaining!

Serenity

On its own, it was a pretty good movie. I, however, believe that he has butchered his creation and betrayed his fans. My best hope would be for him to throw away the movie and go back to making the TV series where he left off, or perhaps if they won't let him, maybe he can make some more comics.

Still, go and see it for yourself. Most people I've spoken to have liked it. Perhaps I'm just strange.
