Went to see
The Golden Compass finally. I was very disappointed. The scenery, sets and props were amazing (they really were), but there was something in the screenplay, the directing or maybe just the cut that left the whole thing really jerky and clumsy. The end result was that the actors (and the film really was full of top-flite actors) seemed to be saying every single line of dialogue in disconnection from the those surrounding, making it sound like a videogame. The transition between scenes was very clunky, the introduction of characters was like tripping over a gap in the pavement and I feel that there was too much focus on the wrong aspects of the plot from the book (just think of everything that could have had proper treatment if they'd spent less time on the Battle Grande). I was left feeling very bored with the entire film and waiting for it to end.
Came across the art of
Erica Henderson (warning: some of it is NSFW). These two images impressed themselves upon me:

Institut Polaire's video clip for
City Walls and Empires is pretty zany, but I feel that it has an important message in it for all of us. Also, they punch through a wall!
