Went to see the West Australian Charity Orchestra last night at the Perth Concert Hall. Contrapositive to what I was led to believe, they did not in fact suck.
I wouldn't go out on a limb and say that they were fantastic (Perth Modern's orchestra is probably better), but the repertoire they performed was reasonably challenging and they put the programme together in two months. The soloists were excellent, but the violins need to learn how to start and finish notes together (the french horns too) and the balance between the orchestra and the choir was poor, meaning that most of the time you couldn't hear the voices over the orchestra.
They did make $10,000 for Princess Margret Hospital.
