Finally watched the film Boys Don't Cry tonight (wikipedia). Umm... shit, I don't think I was mentally prepared for that level of sociopathic violence. The movie is based on the story of Brandon Teena. The world can be really fucked up some times.

It appears that there was some sort of incident at the National Bank on Broadway this evening. When we were walking up to Stirling Hwy, there was about a dozen cops milling around outside Matthias' house and having a bit of a wander down the street, having a look in people's gardens, etc. We walked past the bank on our way back; where there were more police, forensics people and bank staff. Not sure what actually happened, but something that clearly warranted a largish police presence.

I saw one unmarked cop car screaming down Winthrop Ave with sirens blazing on my way home (~5ish), and heard another in the distance. I did wonder at the time.

omg, that film. D:

i did my honours thesis on it. i managed to write the entire thing having watched the film only twice all the way through (one time a number of years previously). i can't handle it. i had to only watch it in small sections.

It's pretty fucked. Much more fucked that I was expecting. Probably not one for the DVD shelf.

A similar movie is A Girl Lile Me (though a little inaccurate)

I've gotten to see some of this violence in real life... and it just scares me. A couple friends of mine back around 2000 where attacked while walking through town. They got the living shit beat out of them and where left for dead. I remember one of the girls having a smashed eye socket and... urgh...

This type of movie I think is something everyone should see at least once. Especially those people who may not be familiar with the community and such... but is definitely not the kind of movie to keep on the bookshelf. Not the type of thing I could watch more then just once.
