reflection on the supreme sacrifice
Today is a day to take a moment to reflect on the futility and waste of war. Let us wish for a day where one person does not raise arms in aggression against another for any reason. Let us remember those who's lives have been lost; and send a message to our leaders not to make the mistakes of the past in our future.

For Australians and New Zealanders its ANZAC day. For both countries, today is a very important day, it commemorates those lost to war, symbolises friendship, respect, the ANZAC spirit, and the futility of war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anzac_day

Davyd, I happen to agree with you except the last sentence. Be careful
about using a commemoration day as the occasion to make a political
statement. There are 365 other days this year to do that.

I think on the day we remember such a sacrifice of human life and pay our respects is the best day in which to say 'let us never do that again'. This is something we should say both to each other and to those who we chose to lead us.
