Since it seems that no one has mentioned this...

Lesbos islanders dispute gay name (BBC)

Sure 15 year olds may laugh when they read Isle of Lesbos, but surely this is going too far. What's next, someone banning the word homogeneous?

Seriously...

o.O

*googles briefly*

Ok, taking a conservative guess at 1% of the world being gay, that's at least 300 000 000 lesbians, and I'm pretty sure over 350 000 of them would self identify that way. I think the numbers are on their side :)

(6 000 000 000/2)*0.01=30 000 000

This made me stop and think a bit I mean the islanders technically had the name first. Though it seems odd that after all this time they only now have an issue with it. All I really feel I can add is... couldn't they just refer to themselves as Lesbosnians instead?

I think it's an overstatement of the article to claim that *all* people from the island of Lesbos are behind the court case.

According to http://www.evdomi.gr/pub/starcms/repository/static/articles/ar_22849_1.asp
three people from Lesbos island had the smart idea to get 15 minutes of fame and sue the local Lesbian organisation.

This has not been in the news in Greece, only 4 items at
http://news.google.com/news?ned=el_gr&hl=el&ned=el_gr&q=%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%83%CE%B2%CE%AF%CE%B1

But then, it's great news for the BBC and the Herald Sun in Australia ;-).

Unsurprising for an Australian newspaper... but I had expected better of the BBC.

I thought all we talked about was how much we hated heavy lifting and whether or not it was time for smoko yet.

Wow, if you've actually forgot me telling you about this then I clearly have the ability to implant things in your head untraceably. Now to go reread the linguistic viruses bit of Snowcrash!
